I stopped listening to songs as they could be demonic.
Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well. In 2021, I was so addicted to listening to songs. It is actually a dopamine detox. I used to listen to a lot of lofi songs when I study, when I tried to sleep, etc. I felt so addicted to songs. But when I was in last year of high school, I stopped listening to lofi songs, as listening to songs is not allowed in university entrance exam.
After I got into university, I only listened to Islamic songs. Islamic songs felt so much better as there is no lust in that.
If anyone’s interested, I’d suggest these songs:
Yeşil Berat - Abdülkadir Önül
Başlayalım Zikre - Abdülkadir Önül
La Ilahe Illallah - Abdülkadir Önül
Diyanet Radyo İlahileri
Allah Allah Şükren Lillah - Fatih Koca
Aşkın ile Aşıklar - Sedat Uçan
Esmaül Hüsna - Mustafa Özcan Güneşdoğdu
Hasbi Rabbi - Sami Yusuf
Talaal Badru Aleyna - Mehmet Emin Ay
Nowadays, I do not listen to songs.
Music feels so demonic.
You feel good and happy at some time. Then, you listen to a sad song and you feel sad. It seems so demonic to me. I mean, how can it effect your emotional situation that quick?
Music can be “not wanted” in Islam.
It is a controversial thing.
In Surah Luqman, Allah (cc) says that And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead (others) from the way of Allah without knowledge and who takes it in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment. صَدَقَ اللّهُ العَظِيمُ
So, I understand that if a song includes something makes joke of religion, it is not okay.
Imam Ghazali (ٱلْغَزَّالِيّ) stated in his book The Revival of Religious Sciences (Ihya’ Ulum al-Din/إِحْيَاء عُلُوم ٱلدِّين)
“So at the beginning the general rule has been mentioned by saying that sama is lawful and wine is unlawful. Song are not unlawful for musical sounds but for other measures. Imam Shafeyi does not generally make Sama unlawful. He says that he who takes it as a profession, his evidence is not acceptable. The reason is that song is included within plays and sports and it is connected with useless things. God will not punish for useless things and plays and sports and they are not unlawful.”
Therefore, it can mean that if a song does not encourage people to do something bad, it is alright.
My only purpose to avoid songs is not Islamic perspective, but I do not want to just skip Islamic perspective of the matter.
People are addicted to songs.
People listen to songs when they walk, when they go to somewhere. After I stopped listening to songs, I feel more aware as I can listen to environmental songs. Birds’ songs, cats’ meows, subway’s rail sounds, etc. Therefore, I feel better. So that people’s dopamine system would be maybe broken due to listening to songs all time.
Conclusion
These were my reasons to stop listening to songs. I’m wondering your comments. You always can send me an e-mail.
